Math
This week students will be learning how to subtract with tens and ones. We will start by subtracting two digit numbers without borrowing and then continue on. Last week students brought home a yellow and blue sheet of paper explaining how to add with and without regrouping. Students will be bringing sheets home to remind them how to subtract and carry. Please continue to work with your student at home!

I have created a link on my blog to Scholastic book orders! If you are interested in ordering any books for friends, relatives, or for your student, feel free to place an order online and use the code - LVB2T. When you order online, you can shop all Book Club flyers, enter your online orders, and pay with a credit or debit card. Every time you place your order online, you earn a FREE Book Pick and I earn a $3 coupon for our classroom! This week students are learning how to add two-digit numbers and how to regroup. We will continue working on adding two digit numbers starting from the ones place. Please continue to practice fast facts at home!

Field Trip
On Thursday, February 26, all first grade classrooms will be going on a field trip to the Rialto Square Theater in Joliet to see the play, “Rainbow Fish.” The bus will leave at 9:05 and will return by 11:50. The children will still be able to purchase a hot lunch on that day if desired. A permission slip will be sent home soon.  Please fill it out and return it along with $6 cash by February 9 if your child plans on attending. Thanks.

Students learned how to compare numbers using their 120 chart. We focused on finding numbers that are 1 more or 1 less as well as 10 more or 10 less. Students also reviewed greater than, less than, and equal to. Next week students will learn how to add two-digit numbers and how to regroup. Please continue to practice fast facts at home!

Valentine's Day
Our Valentine's Day party was so much fun! Each student got to design and make their own bookmark, play hot potato and a matching heart activity. Thank you to all the parents that helped with food, plates, and napkins! A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Rizzo, Mrs. Feylo, Mrs. Hamersly, and Mrs. Bewley for organizing and coming up with such fun and creative activities! THANK YOU!!!

Valentine's Day
Our Valentines Day party will be on Thursday, February 12th from 2:00 - 3:00pm. The students will pass out their valentines before the party. Please DO NOT address the valentines, just have your child sign his/her name. This makes passing them out much easier. There are currently 21 students in the classroom (12 girls & 9 boys).
