Weeks of Sept 2nd - Sept. 13th
Welcome to Miss Beseth's Bouncin' Blog! This is where you will find all of my weekly newsletters. Each week I will post reminders, information, and notes regarding what we have completed this past week in the classroom, as well as important information that will follow in the weeks ahead! It is very important to me that parents and other family members be apart of our classroom community. I will do my best to post pictures of different activities so that you can share what your child is learning with other friends and family. I want your son or daughter to be the best student that they can be when they are in my classroom. In order for that to happen, communication between home and school is key to them succeeding. :) I encourage you to send me an e-mail, note or quick phone call with any questions or concerns regarding your student or our classroom.
Green folders
Your student received a green take home folder. Your student will bring this folder home every day. In it you will find papers that we have completed in class, as well as notes and other information. We encourage you to look through the folder each night with your student and talk to them about what they have learned each day. Please be sure to clean out the folder and put it back into their backpack!
Behavior Chart
Each student was given a behavior chart calendar that they will keep in the back of their folder. It is important that each student bring the chart back to school every day so that they can record their behavior. This is a great way for your student to communicate how they are doing each day. I encourage you to ask them why they colored their specific color and if it is anything other than green they should be able to tell you.
Snack
Please continue to send a snack with your student. We have about 10 minutes for snack each day. I recommend that you keep the snack separate from the lunch (if possible) to avoid confusion. We don’t want the students accidentally eating their lunch during snack time(which happened the first day ;(). I also ask that you try to keep the snacks healthy. Some possible snack ideas include fruits, vegetables, crackers, pretzels, yogurt etc. Water bottles or juice is a good idea as well. We have a few tree nut allergies so be careful when packing snacks!
Lunch reminders
- Please make sure your students name is on their lunch bag or lunch box! I would hate for them to get mixed up!
- Milk is included if your child orders a lunch - if not - milk is 40 cents!
- If there is any problems or questions with your students account please call the office.
- If your students' account is over drawn, they will receive a note in their backpack indicating how much they owe!

Math
Last week the students focused on the concept of addition. We used many manipulatives to create and solve problems in class. A few of our vocabulary words are: total, more, join, altogether, in all, plus, equals and sum. They have been asked to find the sum (1+2=?) as well as the missing number (2+?=5). Next week we will focus on subtraction and the different strategies they can use to solve problems.Reading/Daily 5
In reading, students will continue to take part in the Daily 5 Curriculum. This allows them to participate in 5 different centers each day: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work on Words, Work on Writing, and Listen to Reading. During this time, I will be working with students in small groups as well as individually to reinforce specific skills and strategies.
Author of the Month
Our author of the month for September is Eric Carle. He is an illustrator and writer of children's books. He is most famous for The Very Hungry Caterpillar - a picture book with few words that has been translated into more than 50 languages. The themes of his stories are usually taken from his own knowledge and love of nature. His books always offer the child the opportunity to learn something about the world around them. A few other books that we have read include: The Grouchy Ladybug, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, and Mister Seahorse.

Reminders/Announcements

- Tuesday, Sept. 17th
- Thursday, Sept. 19th
- Tuesday, Sept. 24th
- Box Tops - Please continue to turn in any box tops that you have at home. This is a wonderful fundraiser that helps raise money for our school. Feel free to ask aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas, and neighbors! :) Classrooms with the most box tops will win a classroom party!
- Sight Words - Students brought home a list of sight words this week. The list consists of the words that they need to know by the end of trimester 1. Please take some time at home to review these words with your student. I will continue to assess them throughout the next few months to check their progress.
- Jolly Phonics Dictation - As part of our Jolly Phonics curriculum, each student will be doing weekly dictation activities that include our lesson for the week. The dictation will help your child make connections between what they are learning in class and what they already know in order to complete their spelling tests. This will not be for a grade - but more for an assessment on how they are learning their letter sounds and using them to incorporate into their spelling and writing.
- Please send a note if your child will be picked up or taking another bus home.
- If you have any questions - please feel free to email me at alibeseth@ccsd66.org
I Look forward to having a great year and getting to know you and your son/daughter! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
