Week of Oct. 22nd - Oct. 26th

Oct. 15th - Oct. 19th
This past week was a fun and exciting week for the students! They earned a classroom party on Thursday and choose to eat lunch with me in the classroom. We had so much fun! The students also accumulated 10 stars in music since the beginning of the year and earned themselves a party on Friday with Ms. Wyse. Students also brought home a few of their projects from last week in order to make room for some of our new Halloween ones! Here are a few pictures of our fall projects that I promised from last week!
These are the different leaves that each
student created. We brainstormed as a class the
different things that we see, hear,
smell, taste and feel in Fall :)

Here is what Riddhi sees, hears,
feels, tastes, and smells in the Fall

These are our Scaredy Squirrels :) We talked about different
things that we are afraid of and then wrote
them on our squirrels. Underneath them are our
different fall leaves that the students colored and then sprayed with
water to make a cool design!

This is Alec's squirrel! It was nice for the students to see what each
other were afraid of because then they expressed to
each other that it's OK to be afraid of different things.

Math
This week we finished up our Chapter 4 test on addition and subtraction. We will continue to work on Chapter 5 where the students will learn different addition strategies to 12. Two important strategies to use when practicing at home are:

  • Counting on - This is where you start with the first number and then continuing counting up.
    • Ex: to add 7+2, your child should start at 7 and "count on" 2 more... 8, 9.
  • Using a number line - This is where you start on the first number and "jump on."
    • Ex:  to add 5+3, put your finger on the number 5 and then jump to 6, 7, 8. This strategy is good for our visual learners because they can see their finger move to each number.
Continue to practice addition and subtraction facts at home.  Using the strategies at home will help reinforce what they are learning at school. :)
