Week of Jan. 7th - Jan. 14th
Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday break. This week we got right back into the swing of things. We have enjoyed reading our Jan Brett books. Today we read "The Mitten" and then did a fun project where the students could retell the story (make sure to ask about it when they get home today!). This week was also busy with testing and benchmarking for new groups in Quarter 3. Report cards will be going home on the 22nd, and if your child is currently not meeting in a subject area I will be sending an email next week. If you have any questions please let me know and feel free to email me with any concerns!

Math
This week we started Chapter 10 on place value to one hundred. We are learning how to count, group, and describe objects to 100. Most of the students are really enjoying place value and have improved when counting by 10's and 5's. Some vocabulary that the students have learned: ones, cubes, tens, longs, hundrends, flats.
Exploration Stations
This week the students began a new Social Studies unit on Famous Americans and Symbols. Today we discussed George Washington and everything that he helped us accomplish in the United States. A few other topics through out the next four weeks will include, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., the American Flag, voting, and important symbols/monuments.
Reading logs
Please continue to record your child's reading. I will still take December reading logs so please have your students bring it next week if they want a free personal pizza!
Sight Words (Just a reminder)
By the end of the 2nd Quarter - students need to know all of list one. I will continue to work with each student in the classroom on their sight words, but it is important that they practice at home and become fluent when reading them. I have attached all three list for you to keep at home in a safe place. Have your child read list 1 and if they have gotten them all right - move to list 2. I will be re-testing each student and if your child is not meeting I will be sending an email to let you know which ones to work on!
Scholastic Books!
I have created a link on my blog to Scholastic book orders! If you are interested in ordering any books for friends, relatives, or for your student, feel free to place an order online and use the code - LVB2T. When you order online, you can shop all Book Club flyers, enter your online orders, and pay with a credit or debit card. Every time you place your order online, you earn a FREE Book Pick and I earn a $3 coupon for our classroom!
