Week of Feb. 11th - Feb. 15th

Parents - Thank you for allowing your children to bring in cans for 100 Day! I know that it was last minute and we only had 4 days to make our goal of 100. I am proud to say that our class collected the most cans, totaling 149! I could not be happier and the students were so proud of themselves. We did have a celebration this afternoon for collecting the most. :)

Math

Next week we will be starting Chapter 13 on 3-D shapes. If you have time over the weekend, please work with your child on identifying 3-D shapes and their attributes (curved, flat, corners, planes.)

 

Reading Logs

If your child has not turned in their January reading log, I will still except them as long as there is something filled out. :)

 

Reading Anthology Books

Your child brought home their new Reading Anthology book this week. Please have your child practice reading the stories at home. I am amazed at their improvement from the beginning of the year and I think you will be too! The books are due back on Friday, February 15th. If your child still has their reading anthology book from last month, can you please have them return it next week.

 

Valentine's Day Party

Our Valentine's Day party will be on Thursday, February 14th from 2:00-3:00pm. The students will pass out their valentines before the party. Please DO NOT address the valentines, just have your child sign his/her name. This makes passing them out much easier. There are currently 20 students in the classroom (10 boys & 10 girls). Thanks!

 

Bully Goat Gruff Field Trip

On Wednesday, February 27th, all first grade classrooms with be going to Lewis University in Romeoville to see the play, Bully Goat Gruff Meets the Ugly Duckling. We will leave at 9:30am and will return around 11:45am in time for lunch. Please pack a snack for that day just in case we get back sooner. We will also be going on a field trip sometime in May, so if you don't get a chance to chaperon this trip, you will have a chance to chaperon the next one. Thanks!

Reminders

• Please remember that recess will be outside if the wind chill is 20 degrees or warmer - students will NOT be allowed to stay inside for recess unless they have a note from your family doctor.
