Math
This week we started Chapter 12. Students explored higher numbers and generalized patterns. We spent a lot of time counting by 2's, 5's and 10's! Please make sure to review your students daily math page that is sent home. If it is something that they struggled with - take the time to go through it and do some practice problems. Next Thursday will be our next test on Chapters 10, 11 & 12.
Reading Logs
January reading logs were due this week - if your child has not turned it in yet, I will still accept them next week. The new February calendars went home today so you and your student can continue reading this weekend! :)
Reading Anthology Books
Your child will be bringing home their reading anthology book on Monday that we just finished. Please have your child practice reading the stories at home. I am amazed at their improvement from the beginning of the year and I think you will be too! The books are due back on Friday, February 15th. If your child still has their reading anthology book from last month, can you please have them return it next week before they get their new one!
Valentine's Day Party
Our Valentine's Day party will be on Thursday, February 14th from 2:00-3:00pm. The students will pass out their valentines before the party. Please DO NOT address the valentines, just have your child sign his/her name. This makes passing them out much easier. There are currently 20 students in the classroom (10 boys & 10 girls). Thanks!
Bully Goat Gruff Field Trip
On Wednesday, February 27th, all first grade classrooms with be going to Lewis University in Romeoville to see the play, Bully Goat Gruff Meets the Ugly Duckling. We will leave at 9:30am and will return around 11:45am in time for lunch. Please pack a snack for that day just in case we get back sooner. I will need 3 chaperones. If anyone is intersted, please send me an email! We will also be going on a field trip sometime in May, so if you don't get a chance to chaperone this trip, you will have a chance to chaperone the next one. Thanks!
Author of the Month
Our author of the month for February is Tomie dePaola. He has written and illustrated over 200 books for children! A few of his books that we will be reading in class are, Big Anthony, The Baby Sister, and Strega Nona.
I have created a link on my blog to Scholastic book orders! If you are interested in ordering any books for friends, relatives, or for your student, feel free to place an order online and use the code - LVB2T. When you order online, you can shop all Book Club flyers, enter your online orders, and pay with a credit or debit card.
