The test on these words will be on Friday, September 27th.
*Your students brought home their spelling test today - please make sure to review it with them and help them correct the words that they missed. It is very important that they study their words every night.
Math
This week we started subtraction. Students learned different strategies in order to take away. They all enjoy drawing circles and crossing them out! This week we will continue with subtraction and return back to addition the following week. Please make sure to practice their facts at home. A great way to do this is during dinner - for example, you can ask your child to pick out 5 carrots and eat three of them - how many do they have left? Ask them to write out the number sentence(5-3=2).
Reading/Daily 5
We have continued to do read to self, read to someone, and work on words every day. Next week I will introduce work on writing. The students have really enjoyed being able to pick their own centers. :)

Scholastic Books!
I have created a link on my blog to Scholastic book orders! If you are interested in ordering any books for friends, relatives, or for your student, feel free to place an order online and use the code - LVB2T. When you order online, you can shop all Book Club flyers, enter your online orders, and pay with a credit or debit card. Every time you place your order online, you earn a FREE Book Pick and I earn a $3 coupon for our classroom! I will be receiving flyers that I will send home within the next few weeks if you don't want to do it online. If you have an questions please let me know!

Important Dates
  • Thursday, Sept. 26th - Picture Day
  • Friday, Sept. 27th - Early Dismissal Day - Students will be dismissed at noon (you do not need to pack a lunch).

Reminders/Announcements
  • Magazine Drive - The last turn-in date for this fundraiser is Tuesday, Sept. 24th.
  • Box Tops - Please continue to turn in any box tops that you have at home. This is a wonderful fundraiser that helps raise money for our school. Feel free to ask aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas, and neighbors! :) Classrooms with the most box tops will win a classroom party!
  • Sight Words - Students brought home a list of sight words last week. The list consists of the words that they need to know by the end of trimester 1. Please take some time at home to review these words with your student. I will continue to assess them throughout the next few months to check their progress.
  • Jolly Phonics Dictation - As part of our Jolly Phonics curriculum, each student will be doing weekly dictation activities that include our lesson for the week. The dictation will help your child make connections between what they are learning in class and what they already know in order to complete their spelling tests. This will not be for a grade - but more for an assessment on how they are learning their letter sounds and using them to incorporate into their spelling and writing.
  • Please send a note if your child will be picked up or taking another bus home.
  • If you have any questions - please feel free to email me at alibeseth@ccsd66.org

I Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Miss Beseth
