The test on these words will be on Friday, October 11th.
*Your students brought home their spelling test today - please make sure to review it with them and help them correct the words that they missed. It is very important that they study their words every night.

Math

This week we continued to work on addition and subtraction. Next week we will explore adding three digits as well as counting on and counting back. During math centers students are working on their "fast facts" - addition and subtraction facts that they should be able to recite without using paper and pencil. I will be reviewing these facts as well as testing them weekly. They are doing an awesome job and I am so proud of each of them!

Exploration Stations

Last week was our first week for exploration stations. Our first unit is on the "Settling of America." We discussed what life was like in the 1840's and 1850's and whether or not they would like to live how people lived back then. We also talked about the difference between wants and needs and brainstormed a list of needs that we would have to bring with us if we were traveling. Words that we discussed were settlers, pioneers, Conestoga wagons and oxen.

 

Field Trip

We will be going on a field trip to see a play on Monday, October 21st. The play is entitled, “Professor McBumble’s Fabulous Fairy-Tale Follies Revue – The Bully Show!”and will be performed at Lewis University in Romeoville. The bus will leave at approximately 9:30 and will return by 11:50. The children will still be able to order a hot lunch for that day if desired. A permission slip was sent home on Monday. Please fill it out and return it along with $7 cash. Thank you!

Reminders/Announcements

• Box Tops - Please continue to turn in any box tops that you have at home. This is a wonderful fundraiser that helps raise money for our school. Feel free to ask aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas, and neighbors! :) Classrooms with the most box tops will win a classroom party!
• Please send a note if your child will be picked up or taking another bus home.
