Math
This past week we added tens by using models anchored in the number 10 (30 + 40 is like adding 3 + 4 and then adding the 0). Next week, we will use our 100 chart to add. The hundred chart helps children see patterns that are useful for adding (and in later lessons, for subtracting).

Report Card Envelopes
If your student has not yet returned their signed report card envelope, please send it in as soon as possible. We have to use them for the 2nd Trimester report cards! Thank you!

Scholastic Books!
I have created a link on my blog to Scholastic book orders! If you are interested in ordering any books for friends, relatives, or for your student, feel free to place an order online and use the code - LVB2T. When you order online, you can shop all Book Club flyers, enter your online orders, and pay with a credit or debit card. Every time you place your order online, you earn a FREE Book Pick and I earn a $3 coupon for our classroom! I will be receiving flyers that I will send home within the next few weeks if you don't want to do it online. If you have an questions please let me know!

100th Day!
Thursday, February 13th is the 100th day of school! We will be doing fun activities with the number 100, including counting all of our cans. :) Please continue to donate whatever nonperishable items that you have at home. Our goal is to reach 100 or more! Thanks to everyone that has already contributed.

Valentine's Day Party
Our Valentines Day party will be on Friday, February 14th from 2:00 - 3:00pm. The students will pass out their valentines before the party. Please DO NOT address the valentines, just have your child sign his/her name. This makes passing them out much easier. There are currently 18 students in the classroom ( 7 girls & 11 boys).
Thank you!

Important Dates
  • Thursday, February 13th - 100th Day :)
  • Friday, February 14th - Valentine's Day Classroom Parties
  • Monday, February 17th - No School - President's Day
  • Thursday, February 20th - Spring Picture Day
  • Saturday, February 22nd - Snowflake Ball
  • Friday, February 28th - No School - Institute Day

Reminders/Announcements
  • Box Tops - Please continue to turn in any box tops that you have at home. This is a wonderful fundraiser that helps raise money for our school. Feel free to ask aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandpas, and neighbors! :) Classrooms with the most box tops will win a classroom party!
  • Please send a note if your child will be picked up or taking another bus home.
  • If you have any questions - please feel free to email me at alibeseth@ccsd66.org
  • Please continue to practice sight words at home. Making flash cards is a great idea and allows for fun games, like memory!
  • It's that time of year! Please make sure you are sending your student to school with a hat, gloves, and scarves! If the temperature is above 30 degrees, the kids will go outside for recess and I would hate for them to freeze. :)

I Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Miss Beseth
