This past week has gone by so fast! Everyone has been working hard and doing their very best! Just a few reminders: :) If your child comes home on yellow, that is just a warning. Please feel free to ask your student how their day was and why they colored yellow. The students are really responding to the behavior chart and it will still take a few weeks to be worked into our routine. If your son/daughter asks you why they haven't been on orange or maybe they want to know what they can do to get on orange - please let them know that being on orange means that they have done something out of the ordinary to help a friend, a teacher, or realized a mistake and corrected themselves. I do make it a point to tell them that I will not flip their card to orange if it is something that they are pointing out to me or if they ask if they can flip their card.
Also, please make sure to send a snack with your child everyday!

Science & Social Studies Exploration Stations:
We will begin Exploration Stations in October! The first grade teachers will take turns rotating classrooms so that they can get to know the other students in first grade! For our first unit, we will be learning about the "Settling of America."
Math:
We are continuing to work on addition in Chapter 2. The students work on number stories every day in their thinking journals and we do some throughout the day. We are using counters, cubes, and pictures to explore the meaning of addition. Some vocabulary words to use at home are: join, altogether, in all, add, plus, equals, sum, and addition sentence. Next week the students will take their Chapter 2 test - and they will be sent home with a note attached that will need to be returned.
Looking Ahead:
- Turn in dates for magazines sold is Tuesday, Sept. 18th, Tuesday, Sept. 25th, and Thursday, Sept. 27th.
- Picture Day is Thursday, Sept. 27th - Pictures are only from the waist up so students need to still wear shoes and clothes that are appropriate for gym and recess.
- Early dismissal day is next Friday, Sept. 28th - students will be dismissed at 12:00pm - PLEASE SEND A SNACK but no lunch!
- Please send in BOX TOPS!
Thank you! Have a great week! :)
