Math
This week we started Chapter 14 on Patterns. The students looked at and became familiar with color, shape, size and number patterns. The kids also learned what a pattern unit was and how to identify it within a pattern. They also learned how to extend a pattern sequence by asking "what comes next?"
Author of the Month
Patricia Polacco is our author for the month of March. Many of her books are about events that
happened to her and her family when she was growing up. These books discuss problems &
feelings that many children have but may be afraid to talk about, such as being
bullied, not being able to read, and sibling rivalry. The children enjoy listening to these books and discussing
them as we go along.
Bully Goat Gruff Field Trip
The students had a wonderful time at the play on Wednesday. They were attentive and loved watching it. Thank you to the parents that chaperoned our field trip - Christine Steffgen, Cindy Stewart, and Monique Clair. Our next field trip will be in the middle of May. As the time gets closer I will send home more information and will be looking for volunteers.Summer Birthdays
If your child has a summer birthday, we would like to celebrate it during the school year! You do not have to send treats. I give them a special gift, and the students make them a birthday book. If you have a certain date in mind or just want me to pick a day to celebrate - just shoot me a quick email and we can plan for it! It makes them feel like they have a special day to celebrate like the other students!
First Grade Music Concert
Our First Grade Music Concert will be Thursday, March 14th @ 7:00pm in the Lakeview Junior High gym. The students have been working really hard the past few weeks during music class to prepare for this awesome concert! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me by email or Ms. Wyse at jwyse@ccsd66.org.
I have created a link on my blog to Scholastic book orders! If you are interested in ordering any books for friends, relatives, or for your student, feel free to place an order online and use the code - LVB2T. When you order online, you can shop all Book Club flyers, enter your online orders, and pay with a credit or debit card. Every time you place your order online, you earn a FREE Book Pick and I earn a $3 coupon for our classroom! I will be receiving flyers that I will send home within the next few weeks if you don't want to do it online. If you have an questions please let me know!
