Looking Ahead - Week of June 3rd - June 5th
Wow! How time flies! I can't believe it is the end of the year already! I just wanted to thank all of you for making my first year a fun and exciting one. Thank you for the support and all your help with classroom parties, field trips and volunteering in the classroom. I truely appreciate it!
Please continue to send your student to school with their backpack next week(even on Wednesday). They will be bringing home school supplies, projects, report cards, summer work, and registration packets. It is very important that they have a bag to bring these important papers home. Students will be dismissed on Wednesday, June 5th at 10:00am.

Summer Reading Suggestions
I am so proud of each and every student on how far they have come in reading. They have all developed a love for reading which needs to be encouraged in order to ensure future success. It is important that they read each day over the summer. Here are a few 2nd grade leveled books that you can look for at your library!

- Junie B. Jones (Barbara Parks)
- Cam Jansen (David A. Adler)
- Arthur (Marc Brown)
- Frog & Toad (Arnold Lobel)
- Henry & Mudge (Cynthia Rylant)
- Amelia Bedelia (Peggy Parish)
Please continue to work on math facts through out the summer! It is important that your child know them for next year! There are also some "real life" activities that you can use in order to practice math everyday:
- Practicing telling time on an anology clock - ask what time it will be in a 1/2 hour.
- Count a handful of coins before going to the grocery store.
- Which item on the menu costs the most?
- Do addition and subtraction problems when eating their fruits/vegetable at dinner.
- Give them a ruler and allow them to estimate and then measure real objects around the house.
Writing Ideas
Each student will be bringing their writing journal home the last day of school. It is great to use over the summer and have them continue to write and add their opinions and stories. They all have great imaginations and it's great to see what they come up with. You can give them a writing prompt and ask them to finish it - (Ex. If I could have any superpower it would be... or If I could go any where in the world, I would go to...)
Summer Packet
I will be sending home a summer packet of work. It is optional, but if they finish the entire packet by the start of 2nd grade, they may return it to me and earn a prize!
