The test on these words will be on Friday, October 31st.
Your student brought home their spelling test from today - please make sure to look it over with them! :)
Math
This week, students learned addition and subtraction strategies to 12. We have spent time on doubles ( 5 + 5 = 10 & 7 + 7 = 14 etc.) as well as near doubles (5 + 6 is 5 + 5 + 1 more). We will continue this unit throughout the next week. Also, if you have any old (clean) socks at home that are missing a match or have a hole in them, have your student bring it in. We are going to be using them as erasers in math (a piece of felt works too!).
Conferences
If you have not had a chance to sign up, please click the link below to look at available times. I am looking forward to seeing all of you and talking about your student's progress thus far in first grade.
Halloween Party
Our classroom Halloween festivities are scheduled for Friday, October 31st. The costume parade will begin at 1:40pm outside of the school (weather permitting). Everyone is welcome to come and watch. Our classroom party will follow afterwards at 2:00pm. Only the parents who volunteered to help are allowed back to the classroom. Students should bring their costumes to school in a bag. Please try to make the costumes simple for them to put on. Costumes must go over their clothes and no make-up can be applied at school. Their will be no exchange of candy to be passed out because of food allergies. If you have any additional questions please contact me at alibeseth@ccsd66.org. Thank you!
Junior Achievement
Our class is starting the Junior Achievement program next week. This program will last for 5 weeks and will cover the following topics: families, needs & wants, jobs, and paying for needs & wants. Our volunteer presenter is Chris Dietel. He will come into our classroom once a week for 30 minutes to teach each lesson. These lessons coordinate with our social studies curriculum.
Scholastic Books!
I have created a link on my blog to Scholastic book orders! If you are interested in ordering any books for friends, relatives, or for your student, feel free to place an order online and use the code - LVB2T. When you order online, you can shop all Book Club flyers, enter your online orders, and pay with a credit or debit card. Every time you place your order online, you earn a FREE Book Pick and I earn a $3 coupon for our classroom! I will be receiving flyers that I will send home within the next few weeks if you don't want to do it online. If you have any questions please let me know!
